Lisbon in the Spring 2022
Earlier this month, Dani and I took a long weekend in Lisbon. It was the first time either of us visited this beautiful city and we had a genuinely lovely time. After touching down at the airport and a harrowing cab ride to our hotel, we took a long walk enjoying the sights, food, and ambience of the city.
For day two, we purchased tickets for one of the “hop on - hop off” bus tours. We often do this on trips as it’s a great way to get a feel for where things are. After riding the first route offered, and a bit of lunch, we took the metro over to the Oceanário de Lisboa. I had been reading online how fantastic this aquarium is. I have to say it lived up to expectations. It’s a beautiful, well kept facility when a ton of wonderful exhibits; including a giant two story 1000 square meter tank.
Behind the aquarium is a gondola system that you can ride to get amazing views of the river and the area which was also the site of Expo 98. There are tons of art and restaurants all around the area. After that, I dragged convinced Dani to go to a Japanese restaurant where they had a fun robot cat that delivered your sushi to your table.
On Sunday we did some more exploring. We took another of the bus tour routes before stopping for lunch at the Hard Rock cafe and waiting out the rain. Once it stopped we decided to take a ride on the Glória Funicular. It a counter balanced cable driven street car that takes passengers up and down a steep hill. It’s a short, but still quite fun, ride. We spend the afternoon doing more exploring, including a trip to the famous Nannarella gelato shop (As featured on Somebody Feed Phil). I had a combination of Basil and Raspberry which was just incredible. Basil gelato, who would have thought?
On Monday we didn’t have a lot of time. We had heard the Lisbon airport has been as bad as the Amsterdam one recently, so we decided to make sure that we got there early. But first, we wanted to try one last place. Another cafe that was featured on Somebody Feed Phil… Croissant Gigante. As the name implies, they have gigantic croissants. Made for a fantastic breakfast and, coincidentally, a snack for later on.
We had a great time overall, and I’m sure we’ll be back to explore a bit more in the future.
