Bloesempark in het Amsterdamse Bos
Inside Amsterdam Forest there is a beautiful area called Bloesempark (Flower Park). Inside this part there are four hundred さくら (sakura) or cherry blossom trees. For a few weeks every spring these trees blossom together in a beautiful explosion of pink and white. Though it was a big cold and overcast this morning, I took the chance to ride my bike over to take in the spectacle.
The sakura were donated in 2000 by Japan Women's Club. Each of the four hundred trees also has a name. Two hundred trees have Japanese female names and the other two hundred have dutch female names. You can see the list of names and learn more about the park on the Amsterdamse Bos website (in Dutch).
As you can see from the pictures it gets quite busy. I visited around 10am on a Sunday morning. So if you plan on visiting, it’s best to get there early and on a week day if you can swing it.
